CHARACTER
Name: Red Saber (Real Name: Mordred ap Arthur Pendragon)
Canon: Fate/Apocrypha
Age: Looks around 14-16, actually only lived to about 7 years in her first life
Timeline: Shortly after meeting Shirou Kotomine
If playing another character from the same canon, how will you deal with this?: Red Saber and Prototype Lancer are not from the same Grail War. They will, therefore, not have much of a reason to interact with each other. What's more, Red Saber will likely stick by her "father," Saber of Fate/Zero, while Lancer is sticking by Kirei Kotomine. Given Saber and Kirei's hostile relationship, Red Saber will probably not have much motivation to talk to Prototype Lancer. If they are forced into a situation where they have to interact, I will most likely limit it to them glaring at each other and then turning away.
Personality:
In life, Mordred was an innocent child. She bore the same obsession as Morgan le Fay, but one borne out of love and not hatred. She adored her father greatly, and her shame at her own twisted birth was eventually surpassed by pride in the knowledge that she was the perfect heir to the perfect king. Though ashamed of her birth and body, as well as jealous of normal humans, she hid it behind her flawless chivalry. She was said to be a knight in shining armor the likes of which “could only be found in picture books.” Even when Morgan revealed the secrets of her birth, she did not have the slightest desire for rebellion and just craved the King’s acceptance. Even though she would not admit it was her true desire, her only wish was that Arturia call her “son.”
Not so Servant Saber. Mordred’s rejection and later death at her own father’s hands has traumatized and twisted her. After being denied the right to inherit the throne, Mordred’s love became hate and bitterness. She believed that Saber only rejected her because she shared Morgan’s blood, when in truth she did not carry even a single drop of it. Consumed with rage, she went so far as to rebel against her father in a childish attempt to prove that she did have the ability to lead and hoped to persuade her father to accept her through force of arms. When facing Arturia in the final battle, she denied her own responsibility in devastating the country and blamed the King for rejecting her. This bitterness has stayed with her into her second life.
As Saber, she seems to brim with confidence and pride. She openly insults her own Master and her summoning place. Though she refers to him as Master, she clearly sees him as an inferior. The only time she allows him trust and respect is when he refuses to work with Shirou Kotomine and Assassin of Red and thus refuses to use what she considers underhanded tactics. Time and again, she claims to have surpassed her father and is confident that her skills will bring her team victory in the Grail War. At the same time, she is consumed with the same rage that she felt around the time of her death. She is irreverent toward authority and carries a grudge toward her father and the Knights of the Round Table. Her hatred of them is such that she destroys her own catalyst because it happens to be a shard of the Round Table. Any mention of her past history causes her rage to flare up. She still blames her father for their final split. In her mind, she has already proved herself more than enough. Her speech is also crude, holding none of the courteous words or phrases that a knight like Arturia would use.
She hates being referred to as being a "woman," since it carries the implication that she is, first off, too weak to be a knight, and second off, not an exact duplicate of her father, who she believes to be male. When her Master calls her a woman, she threatens to kill him the next time he makes that error. She is also impulsive and hotheaded, wanting to charge into battle at the first opportunity and believing all battles can be won with her superior martial techniques. While she can settle down to abide by her Master's strategies, she still welcomes the thought of fighting all the other Servants. In her mind, she was summoned to kill other Heroic Spirits, and kill them she would.
However, some bit of her former innocent self remains. Her wish on the Grail is to reverse time so she will be the one to take Caliburn from the stone and prove herself deserving of kingship. The unstated part of that wish is that by proving herself worthy of kingship, she would also prove herself worthy of being her father's successor. She still considers herself a knight, though her idea of chivalry is very rough as compared to those of knights like her father Arturia. For example, she looks down on most people and even insults them, but tries not to attack them for prana or involve them needlessly in battle. Like her father, she enjoys fighting strong opponents and proving her mettle. However, while Arturia can respect and even befriend worthy opponents, Mordred can only see them as enemies to be fought and cut down. When Black Saber survived the attack of her Noble Phantasm, she was not impressed in the least. Instead, she was enraged that he had the gall to survive. On the battlefield, she is brutal, almost demonic, in her manner of fighting. This ties in to her pride--her opponents are always her lessers and thus should be mercilessly slain. Like Arturia, though, Mordred dislikes manipulative people and overly sneaky strategies. Especially ones that depend on backstabbing. Though called the Knight of Treachery, for her, rebellion should be openly stated. To play at being an ally and then striking from behind is a coward's way out. It also reminds her of her mother, the manipulative sorceress Morgan Le Fay. Like her father, she wishes to be a king and lead the people. However, unlike her father, she only has knowledge of theory and no actual experience. Thus, her political philosophies can come off as hopelessly naive. Her fears are childish as well--though she does not admit it, she is terrified of skeletons and darkness.
Note: Mordred is said by the creator, Nasu, to be a "woman." Therefore, even though she seems to have some confusion over her gender identity, I will refer to her with female pronouns just to be safe.
Background:
Here
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Red Saber is a Servant, a hero of the past summoned as a magical familiar. Her class of Saber is said to be the best Class of the Grail War. She is an accomplished sword fighter and has some degree of resistance to magic spells. Her main physical weakness is her height and the fact that if she were to form a Contract with someone, she would be dependent on their prana for her continued existence. Like her father, she has an extremely high potential for magic and skills that correspond to magic users, like magic resistance and prana burst. As a homunculus, her magic circuits can be considered to be more refined than those of her Father, but because, in life, they took precedence over the other parts of her body, she feels extreme pain after releasing prana in great bursts.
Emotionally, she is stubborn and proud. She can face down scenes of slaughter without flinching and never hesitates to accept a challenge. However, she is impulsive and can get into situations that would overwhelm her. Her other major weakness is her obsession with her father. She is extremely bitter over "his" rejection, and any mention of "him" either sets her off in a rage, or causes her to get defensive and claim she is better than he is. Though she covers it up with pride, it's obvious that her trauma still haunts her to this day.
Mentally, she has a basic understanding of the modern world due to the information provided by the Holy Grail. However, her understanding of history and the details of modern life, especially the cultural aspects, is visibly lacking. She can easily get confused and inquisitive when faced with things like democratically elected governments or computers. Still, she learns quickly and can be considered as a person who is at least moderately intelligent.
Though trained in swordsmanship, she takes a pragmatic view of her fighting style. For her, her sword is a weapon and nothing else. She has no room for the sentimentality of other nights.
Abilities:
As mentioned, Red Saber is a Servant. She had enhanced speed, strength, and endurance greater than anything a normal human could achieve. She also possesses the ability to summon two Noble Phantasms, weapons symbolic of her status as a hero. Her father, Arturia, was granted the Factor of the Dragon, or the magic circuits of a dragon, by Merlin even as she was in the womb. This makes Arturia's magic circuits resemble more of a magic core or furnace. Mordred, as a perfect clone of Arturia, possesses the same magic circuits, but because of her magical origins, she would be described less as a person with magic circuits than magic circuits surrounded by a human form. As a result, she channels a greater amount of prana than her father at a time, but at the cost of damaging her own body. Like her father, she does not use this prana for spells like a magus would, but instead uses it to boost her physical attacks. As a knight, Mordred is highly trained in matters like swordplay and riding. She also has some degree with tactics, having previously led an army in a war.
Her Servant parameters look like this:
Noble Phantasm - Rank unknown. However, given the effect it had on Black Saber, it is probably somewhere around at least B rank.
Strength - B+
Endurance - A
Agility- B
Mana - B
Luck- lower than C
Her Class Skills are
Magic Resistance - B (All spells that require less than three lines of chanting have no effect; even spells classified as extremely powerful magic have a hard time affecting her)
Riding - B (Mordred can handle almost every manner of vehicle. However, she cannot ride magical beasts)
Her Personal Skills are
Instinct - B (She can "feel" the most favorable developments for herself in a battle. However, her instincts would not help her with predicting a battle in which her sight or hearing is obstructed.)
Prana Burst - Rank unknown (Mordred can unleash her prana in bursts to boost her physical attacks)
Her two Noble Phantasms are Secret of Pedigree: Helmet that Conceals Infidelity and Clarent Blood Arthur: Rebellion against my Beautiful Father. Secret of Pedigree takes the form of the face-concealing helmet that she wears. It hides her parameters as a unique Heroic Spirit from even her Master, so no one will know her identity, Noble Phantasms, or personal skills. She must remove it to use her other Noble Phantasm. Clarent Blood Arthur usually takes the form of a splendidly decorated silver sword. When it is activated, the sword and the space around its user becomes stained with blood. It gives off strange sounds while transforming and gives off the sense of being a sinister, cursed blade. When swung, it releases its bloody radiance in a straight line resembling the attack of Arturia's Excalibur. Again like Excalibur, the "blood" is actually prana turned into a cutting tool. It requires a sufficient amount of distance from an enemy to achieve its full effect.
First Person:
Test drive from a long time ago
Same Test Drive
Third Person:
Mordred cackled wildly as she sped down the streets in the stolen motorbike. Or no, it wasn't stolen. It was sequestered. She, as the king, had taken possession of the motorbike from an inferior, as was well within her right.
However, the knave she had taken it from didn't think so. He was chasing her down even now, calling her to return with his vehicle. And, even worse, daring to call her a "thief."
"I am no thief!"
She turned to call to her pursuer, not even hesitating to stop her motorbike. Thankfully, cruising down the streets had actually put her in a good mood. Else she would have stopped to hack the offender to pieces.
"Call me that again, and you shall not survive!"
As if to emphasize, she held up a hand and pointed her middle finger up in the air. It was a rude gesture she has seen the people of this age use. What better way to emphasize her disdain for this knave?
Now that she was done with that little conversation, she turned back to her riding, placing both of her hands on the handlebars and revving the vehicle up to full speed. The metal horse roared through the streets, its rider fully savoring the sensation of the wind whipping into her face. It was still slower than she could manage as a Servant, but before she was a mere familiar, she was a knight. And what knight didn't enjoy the thrill of riding a fast mount?
The streets and buildings have long become a blur. She would have gone on and on until the motorbike was well out of oil, but as she sped along, she could catch the sight of that man. That man, staring at her with a disapproving look. No matter how she ignored her other surroundings, she can't ignore that man.
She hit the brakes, letting the bike sputter to a stop. She meets the man's glare with an angry one of her own. Two identical sets of green eyes stared at each other, out of two identical, angelic, childlike faces.
"Father."
She spat the word out like a curse. Her face curled into a snarl, twisting her otherwise angelic beauty.
"What's wrong, Father? Are you so angry that I can handle this contraption better than you can?"
Her snarl disappeared, only to her lips curl into a haughty smirk. Father should just hurry up and acknowledge that she is his superior. In this as well as everything else.
And because of that, he should hurry up and accept her as his son.
Even if she wasn't a son.
